This was a continued discussion from last year when gas prices went through the roof.

No idea as yet if prices will return anytime soon.

However, has the fact that prices went down changed your mind about riding instead of driving?

NoGas-SoIBIke
General Board for Bicyce Commuting - How many routes do you have to commute to work.

I have one route to work and three for the trip home. Since start work at 5:30am, I leave around 4:45-5:00. That gives me time to get to work, get cleaned up and changed (I'm only 5 miles from work. 10-15 minutes to drive, 20-25 minutes to bike, 45 minutes by bus)

The trip home depends on what time of day I leave. Normally, I'll leave around 2:30pm. Traffic isn't too much of a problem and I can take the same route I take in the mornings.

Leaving at 3pm puts me in school traffic. I'll take a few detours and come out at a different set of lights that's easier to cross. It adds 2.5 miles to my trip home.

4pm puts me in the beginning of rush hour (not fun to ride in) and the route I take adds nearly 6 miles to my trip home. It's worth the extra miles and my hands appreciate that as I don't experience the white-knuckled death grip on my handlebars!

This morning going home from working last night I experienced the first near freezing trip of the fall. I get off work at 7am and head home in the dark with ny lights and reflective vest. Todays ride reminded me that I need warmer gloves. I plan on riding as much as I can this winter but will probably not ride in snowy or icy conditions. I will probably not ride in subzero temps either. Exspecially if I don't get better gloves.

Recently, some have noted an increase, in age and variety of demographics, of those now using the "Two-wheeler" for regular transportation.

Have you seen this in your area? Has this affected you travel and/or view of your commute?

Please sign in and let us know. Thanks!

Yeah, its kinda' odd. I don't know if I should have checked it after a ride to see if it needed to be tightened up alittle or if the grease I used was wrong. If anyone is familiar with any part of Milwaukee road in Chicago or any area around it (to the north), it is never a road that you want to loose your ability to pedal on or across (much less try to dodge traffic).
